What is Preventative Dentistry?
Preventative dentistry is how we prevent problems from occurring. The best way to prevent issues is to have regular checkups.
If we detect problems early, they can often be reversed before the need for fillings or extensive dental treatment. For example, the early stage of a hole in a tooth can often be treated with fluoride and reversed, therefore never needing a filling.
What is a Fissure Seal?
Teeth have grooves on their top surface, often these are too narrow and small for a brush to clean. The grooves are ideal for bacteria to grow and create a hole. To prevent bacteria from causing a hole, we clean the area with specialised dental tools and fill the space with a hard white dental filling. This prevents a hole from ever starting and makes the area easy to clean.
What is a Fluoride Treatment?
A fluoride treatment is used to strengthen the teeth. We place a tray into your mouth which is filled with fluoride foam. The tray stays in your mouth for one minute, after which you can not eat or drink for 30 minutes. The fluoride works to strengthen your teeth making them more resistant to sugar and acid attacks.

Types of Preventative Dentistry
Fissure Seal
Molar teeth have grooves on their top surface which are too small for a brush to clean, thus bacteria may grow and create a hole. To prevent this, Dr Danny and Dr Josie will clean the area and fill it with a white dental material. This prevents a hole from ever starting and makes the area easy to clean.
The procedure is similar to having your nails painted and does not need a needle.
Fluoride Treatment?
A fluoride treatment is used to strengthen the teeth. Dr Danny and Dr Josie will regularly give fluoride treatments after dental cleans. They come in many fun flavours, like strawberry and cinnamon apple. We use a foam which stays on your teeth for one minute, after which you will not eat or drink for 30 minutes. The fluoride works to strengthen your teeth making them more resistant to sugar and acid attacks.
